The video was released shortly before Hilton’s TV series The SimpleLife debuted, causing a media sensation. Salomon originally sued Hiltonfor defamation when Hilton claimed publicly that she was “out of it”and didn’t know what she was doing during the taping of the video.Hilton also sued Salomon over the release of the tape, but settled outof court in July 2005. According to reports, Hilton was awarded up to$400,000 and planned to donate a percentage to charity.[1] However, ina 2006 interview with GQ magazine, she stated: “I never received a dimefrom (the video). It’s just dirty money and (Salomon) should give itall to some charity for the sexually abused or something

Polisi memaparkan, Tao memakai nama samaran di internet dan mengaku memiliki video Ling. Ia menawarkan video porno Ling pada pengguna forum online di situs Baidu. Mereka yang berminat diminta mengirim alamat e-mail pada Tao.

Tindakan itu dinilai melanggar peraturan setempat yang memang ketat membatasi peredaran pornografi, sehingga Tao jadi buron. Investigator berhasil melacak nama asli dan alamat Tao. Mereka menemukan beberapa video porno di komputernya.

"Dia masih muda dan tak tahu betapa besar kesalahannya. Ia bertindak seperti banyak pengguna internet muda lain, yang ingin meningkatkan reputasi online dengan menyediakan informasi langka," ucap Liu Juan, juru bicara kepolisian.

Akibat perbuatannya tersebut, Tao mendapat hukuman ditahan selama 15 hari.
